Danvers 4 - Lynnfield 1

The Danvers Varsity Girls Soccer Team traveled to Lynnfield Saturday morning to take on the once beaten Lynnfield team from the Cape Ann League.  Danvers and Lynnfield routinely scrimmage each other every year but this was their first ever official game against one another.  The visitors wasted no time as they got on the board in the second minute of play.  Senior Gabby Chisholm sent in a perfect corner kick serve that senior Reese Pszenny was able to flick on.  Freshman Georgia Prouty was in the right place at the right time and put her shot into the empty net for the 1-0 lead.  Danvers maintained possession for the next 7-8 minutes but in the 15th minute of the game, was called on a handball in the box.  The Lynnfield player's penalty kick was saved by Danvers junior keeper, Emily Goddard but the ref decided that the keeper moved too early.  Lynnfield was given a second attempt and scored to make it 1-1.

"At that point the game was starting to be played more in our own end of the field and Lynnfield was gaining a lot of confidence."

With 8 minutes left in the half, Danvers got the energy boost they needed.  Georgia Prouty made a great run up the left side of the field and had a great attempt on net that was initially saved by the Lynnfield Keeper.  However, sophomore midfielder Kacie McDonough made a long run following the play and was able to kick the rebound home to once again put the Falcons in the lead.  Now with momentum, the Falcons added another goal less than 2 minutes later.  Freshman Brooke Wynott sent a nice through ball pass to classmate Prouty who scored her second of the day.  The score was 3-1 at half time.

"We looked tired in the middle of the field late in the half.  Kacie is a defender but we needed some fresh legs at mid.  She instantly made a positive impact on the game.  On her goal she made a 40 yard, full speed run to follow the play with Georgia.  She was in perfect position to knock in the rebound.  It was her first varsity goal and it came at a crucial time for the Team.  Brooke's through ball pass to Georgia minutes later was huge as well.  Having the 2 goal lead at half time helped a lot."

Danvers controlled play through much of the second half.  Danvers tweaked their formation and got some  steady play from juniors Katie Walfield and Courtney Hinchion at midfield.  Danvers lengthened their lead in the 5th minute when Prouty sent in junior Ellie Anderson on a break away.  Anderson did nicely finding the back of the net for the 4th goal of the game.  From there, Danvers solidified their defense.  Senior Emma Dunn and juniors Ryley Crosby and Mikayla Shaffaval were solid on the Danvers back line, limiting any Lynnfield attacks.  Senior Gabby Chisholm was a force all game long from her center back spot.  She broke up every play defensively and was often the start of each attack from the back.  Sophomore Krysta Zamejtis played some quality minutes at forward and put a shot off the  post late in the game.  The final score ended 4-1 with Danvers improving to 6-0-1 on the young season.

"We got a really good team effort today.  A lot of players really stepped up when we needed them and this is only going to help us going forward.  Georgia was amazing again today figuring in all 4 of our goals.  She really led our attack and Gabby did the same for us defensively."

Danvers travels to Swampscott Monday night to take on the Big Blue in league play.
