Danvers 8 - Winthrop 0

On Wednesday afternoon, the Danvers Varsity Girls Soccer Team traveled to Winthrop for an N.E.C. match.  Danvers got the eventual game winner only 7 minutes into the game.  Junior Georgia Prouty passed the ball into the back of the Winthrop net off a pass from sophomore Lila Doucette.  In the 15th minute, senior captain, Krysta Zamejtis made a textbook back diagonal pass to a rushing freshman Emma Sutherland.  Sutherland made sure to make her shot count and the score was 2-0.

"Krysta's pass was amazing.  Georgia made a run to the outside and took her defender away.  Krysta basically made a blind pass behind her knowing that Emma would be making the run.  That was such a pretty play."

Emma Sutherland wasn't done there.  She scored again in the 19th minute, this time off a cross from Prouty.  Despite tons of shots and scoring opportunities, the score stayed 3-0 going into halftime.  Defenders Addi McCarty, Lila Flynn, Addie Lamar, Skylar Laws and Reese Holland did very well to limit Winthrop time in their own defensive end of the field.

Zamejtis got her first goal of the season only 3 minutes into half number 2 off another assist by Georgia Prouty.  8 minutes later, Prouty had her 3rd straight assist on a second goal by Krysta Zamejtis.  Prouty ended her 5 point day in the 17th minute on a breakaway feed from Emma Sutherland.

With 11 minutes to play.  Danvers was awarded a corner kick and Lila Doucette served a ball into the Winthrop box.  Sophomore DeAnna Figueiredo leapt into the air well above the defenders and headed a gorgeous goal home.

"Dee can really jump!  She got way above everyone and scored on a beautiful header.  That was an outstanding goal."

Danvers wrapped up the scoring with 5 minutes to play on a goal by junior, Gianna Sutherland, from distance, assisted by sophomore Ashley Freitas.  The final score was 8-0.  Junior goalie, Maddie Dembowski made 5 saves on the day to preserve the shutout, her third of the season.

Danvers got strong play from midfielders Molly Godfried, Liv St. Pierre and Ashley Freitas while Addi McCarty stood out defensively for the Falcons.

"Georgia has a good game for us today.  5 points, 3 of them on assists really shows how important she is in our attack.  It was great to see Krysta find the back of the net a couple of times as well"

Danvers improved to 5-2 on the season with a 5-1 league mark.  The Falcons host Bishop Fenwick Saturday night at 5:30 and will honor the retirement of long time Coach Jerry Hills.
