Danvers 4 - Saugus 1

On Tuesday night the Danvers High School Girls Varsity Soccer Team traveled to Saugus for an N.E.C. match.  Saugus came into the game sporting a solid 9-2 record and Danvers knew they'd have to play well.  In the 11th minute of action, Danvers made it a 1-0 game.  Sophomore Liv St. Pierre took a pass from junior Georgia Prouty and fired a left footed blast past the keeper for the early lead.  Danvers maintained play for a bit but Saugus strengthened as the half wore on.  In the 23rd minute, Saugus tied the score off a corner kick.  Then, with 11 minutes left in the half, Georgia Prouty was fouled by a Saugus defender in the penalty area and awarded a penalty kick.  Liv St. Pierre stepped up and converted the kick to regain the lead into halftime.

"Liv's first goal was a bomb.  I love that she hit it lefty.  She also did well with the penalty kick.  Going into halftime with the 1 goal advantage was huge."

Danvers came out fast in the second half, but also had some early defensive miscues.  Georgia Prouty made a couple big plays defensively to keep Saugus off the scoreboard in the second half.  4 minutes in, the Falcons capitalized.  St. Pierre got her third goal of the game off another pass from Prouty. Once again, St. Pierre hit it lefty and from about 20 yards out.  7 minutes later the visitors got another.  Lila Doucette played a quick corner kick to Prouty who served a liner into the box.  St. Pierre got a piece of it but it was senior captain, Reese Holland who headed it Home for the 4th goal of the game.

"Lila was super smart on that play.  Saugus didn't even realize the ball was in play.  Liv's 3rd goal was beautiful.  She struck it very well and it zipped right through a crowd to find the net.  Super for her to get the hat trick."

Danvers continued to play well in the second half, getting strong play from Ashley Freitas at midfield and DeAnna Figueiredo both on offense and defense.  Addie Lamar played some crucial minutes on defense and made a play on the goal line to prevent a Saugus goal.  Goalkeeper Maddie Dembowski made 7 saves in the game.

"Liv had an amazing offensive game for us.  Her shots were lethal tonight.  She had 8 shots on net tonight which we love to see from her.  I was impressed that we had 11 players all get off at least 1 shot in the second half.  It's good to see so many players getting involved in the attack.  Georgia also played fantastic tonight.  She delivered 3 assists but it was her defensive work that really stood out and helped us to the victory."

Danvers improves to 10-2-2 on the year.
