Danvers 8 - Gloucester 0

The Danvers Girls Varsity Soccer Team hosted Gloucester Monday on a rain soaked night.  Danvers got the scoring going early with junior Georgia Prouty scoring in the 8th minute on an assist from sophomore Lila Doucette.  2 minutes later, Prouty tallied again, this time on a pass from Krysta Zamejtis.

"Krysta's diagonal ball to Georgia was perfect.  She had great vision seeing Georgia making that run and it was a pretty goal."

Sophomore Liv St. Pierre scored unassisted in the 18th minute to make the score 3-0.  1 minute later, junior Gianna Sutherland scored her first varsity goal off an assist from Prouty and sophomore DeAnna Figueiredo.  With 2 minutes to play in the first half, birthday girl, Brooke Wynott found the back of the net off a second assist from Figueiredo.  The score was 5-0 at halftime.

"The goals were great and we moved the ball fairly well.  Still, Gloucester found a way to get behind our defense too many times.  Our goalkeeper, Maddie Demboski was fantastic and made a few big saves when needed."

Danvers got 2 more goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half.  Georgia Prouty scored on a corner kick that was set up by Wynott and sophomore, Addi McCarty.  Then, Doucette put one in to make it 7-0 off a pass from St. Pierre.  Freshman Emma Sutherland finished off the scoring for the game in the 13th minute on a through pass from senior, Liv Ferullo.

"Liv's assist was beautiful.  She timed the through pass to Emma absolutely perfectly and caught Emma in full sprint.  Emma calmly finished the goal and gave Liv her first career assist."

Danvers got strong play from senior captain Skylar Laws and Figueiredo on defense and from senior captain Molly Godfried in the midfield.

"We made some mistakes defensively and Gloucester has some very talented young players.  But Maddie Dembowski really owned the net tonight and deserved that shutout.  We played much cleaner, team defense the second half.  We used a lot of girls in the back tonight and I especially thought DeAnna Figueiredo did well back there.  It was another 4 point game for Georgia.  Hopefully she's saved a few more for some big games we have coming up."

Danvers improved to 2-1 on the season.
