Danvers 1 - Peabody 1

The Danvers Varsity Girls Soccer Team traveled to Peabody Wednesday night for their second bout with the Tanners.  Danvers beat them in their Home opener, 2-0 but it was a hard fought game with Danvers not scoring until the second half.  The Falcons came out of the gate passing the ball well and getting off plenty of shots on the Tanner net.  However, the scored remained 0-0 for most of the half.

"We had a couple of excellent opportunities to score.  On each, we either miss hit our shot or the Peabody goalkeeper came up big.  When you don't cash in on great opportunities like those early on, it tends to come back and bite you."

Danvers got their only goal of the game with 8 minutes left in the half.  Gianna Sutherland played a nice through ball to Georgia Prouty.  Prouty played a perfect ball across the box that the Peabody goalie barely got a hand on.  The rebound went right to Emma Sutherland who punched it in for the 1-0 lead.

Danvers had a plethora of shots in the second half as well, but only a handful were truly dangerous.

"We totaled 35 shots today and 27 of them were on frame.  However, for some reason we couldn't get any power behind most of our shots.  And those that did, were hit right at their goalkeeper.  Shooting has been a strength of ours this year and we just seemed off tonight."

With 14 minutes remaining, a Tanner attacker beat 2 defenders and was able to score to even the game up.  Danvers had several chances to take the lead late.  A penalty kick by the Falcons was saved by the Peabody goalkeeper and a hard hit shot by Prouty hit the crossbar.  It just wan't the Falcon's night.

"Give Peabody a lot of credit.  They often got 9 players behind the ball and made the field congested for us.  When we brought the ball wide and spread them out, good things happened.  However, we chose to go into the middle way too much and their defense made plays.  This tie will hurt us in the N.E.C. race.  Masco beat Marblehead today and now not only do we need to beat them, but we'd also need another Team to take at least a point from them.  This happened to us last year as well when we tied Swampscott at our field.  Tough result tonight, but hopefully it allows us to refocus and get back on track quickly."
