Danvers 0 - Masco 2

The Danvers Falcons dropped their first game of the season, 2-0 to defending state champions Masco at home on Monday night.  Masco got the only goal they would need 5 minutes into the game.  They added an insurance goal with 15 minutes left in the game.  Danvers had some great opportunities late in the first half and early in the second, but could not find the back of the net.  Masco's ability to win 50/50 balls and move the ball quickly was on display throughout much of the game.  Danvers hung with them in a 1 goal game every step of the way but did not have the next gear they needed. Both teams are now 4-1 and are in a 3 way tie with Marblehead atop the leader board in the NEC Dunn Division.

"Masco is legit!!  They won the state title last season, and although they graduated some great players, they are still playing at a very elite level.  Them getting the early goal was a tough blow because we were chasing the game from that point on.  We had our chances, but didn't take advantage, and when your playing a team of that caliber, you only get so many of those opportunities."

Danvers got very strong play from So.'s Cassidy Randall and Maddie Hanas.  Both played terrific on the flanks.  Sr. Captain Ashley Freitas was a warrior in the middle of the field competing for 50/50 balls and using her physical play to slow the Chieftans down.  Jr. Keeper Taylor Landry had  a solid game in net playing with confidence and poise.

Danvers travels to Winthrop on Wednesday and Marblehead on Friday.
