Danvers 8 - Gloucester 1

Danvers beat Gloucester 8-1 Monday afternoon to improve to 3-0 on the young season.  Brooke Wynott got the scoring started off an assist from DeAnna Figueiredo 13 minutes into the game.  5 minutes later, a mistake in the back led to Gloucester striking a 30 foot shot on the Danvers goal, that keeper Maddie Dembowski lost in the sun.  With the score tied at 1, Danvers put 17 shots on the Fishermen net in the opening half but the score stayed tied at 1.  The Danvers defensive back line of Ali Doucette, Lila Doucette, Maddie Hanas, Cassidy Randal, Sabina Sturgeon and Lila Flynn held the Home Team to only 3 shots the entire half.  With under a minute to play, Wynott fed fellow senior classmate Gianna Sutherland up the right side of the field.  Sutherland blasted a hard shot, upper corner to give Danvers the 2-1 lead heading into the half.

"Gianna's goal was beautiful and timely.  We needed that to get us going."

With the sun behind them in the second half, the Danvers offense exploded.  Georgia Prouty scored 2 minutes in on a play set up by Figueiredo and Lila Doucette. Maddie Shairs, Emma Sutherland and Liv Page created some good offensive chances.  In the 17th minute, junior Claudia Drakos scored on a beautiful "frame the goal" shot assisted by Prouty.  It was Drakos's first varsity goal.

"Claudia made a great run at the back post and was in perfect position to knock that goal in.  We had talked about that at halftime and it was great to see her pull it off."

Over the course of the next 5 minutes, the Falcons added 3 more.  Brooke Wynott connected on a penalty kick and Georgia Prouty achieved a hat trick with 2 more goals, assisted by freshman, Kaia Glover and Figueiredo.  With 2 minutes to play, Lila Doucette put Home the final goal, off another assist by Glover.   Seniors Lizzie Owen and Kayla Houston defended well on the outsides and classmate Tabitha Sears attacked well up the left wing.  Freshmen Kaitlyn Rosa at striker and Dani Scarpaci at center back played hard late in the match.

Coach Hinchion recognized junior Ashley Freitas at holding mid, Figueiredo at center mid and Wynott at striker as having very strong games.  Maddie Dembowski played flawlessly having to make only 2 saves in the second half.

Danvers improved to 3-0 with the win.
