2024 highlights of the week

Highlights from the week of 9/2-9/8

Plays of the Week:

5 minutes into the second half of the Peabody game... Ali Doucette made a solid defensive tackle in our own end. The ball bounced to Addi McCarty who played a ball to the left flank where Lila Doucette controlled the ball. She sent a chip forward that Georgia Prouty collected at the 35 yard line and sprint dribbled by 3 defenders before placing a low shot just inside the far post. That goal ignited the Team and gave us our first goal of the season. First of many to come...

In the Beverly game, not long after we took a 1-0 lead about halfway through the first half, a Beverly player took possession in our end about 25 yards out. She hit a wicked right footed shot at our goal that Maddie Dembowski leapt to her left, and extended fully, making a textbook save in the air. Great hands behind the ball. That save was huge at the moment as it kept our lead in tact which we would soon add to.

In the 24th minute of the Beverly game, Cassidy Randall made a defensive clear from deep in our own box. The clear found Lila Doucette's feet in our own end of the field. She dribbled for 20 yards and sent a perfect through pass on the ground that met Georgia Prouty on a full sprint. Georgia outpaced everyone on the field for 40 yards before sending her shot to the upper, near corner for the 2-0 lead.

Varsity Firsts:

Ali Doucette recorded her first varsity point on her assist to Georgia on our first goal in the Beverly game.

Player(s) of the Week:

Our first Player of the Week is junior, Ashley Freitas. Ashley had an amazing game vs. Peabody in our opener. She played extremely physical and gave us a toughness and intelligence that is needed to play the "6" position on the field. Ashley routinely made hard tackles and used her body well to shield off defenders before finding open teammates up the field. Against Beverly, it was more of the same. Ashley helped plug up the middle where it is often a strength for Beverly. She played heavy minutes and never stopped playing at the highest level. Well done Ashley!

Lila Doucette did just about everything in our 2 games this week earning her Player of the Week honors. Lila started at center mid on Wednesday vs. Peabody but also found herself playing striker, center back and wing forward. The birthday girl assisted on our first goal of the year that game as well. At Beverly, she started at center back, moved up to center mid and striker before closing the game out back on defense. Lila played all 80 minutes that game, registered her second assist of the season and was named 1 of our "Spotlight Players of the Game" for our bus ride Home. Congratulations Lila!

After 2 games, the Team has scored 5 goals thus far. Georgia Prouty has scored all of them! This makes her our third Player of the Week. Both of her goals vs. Peabody happened in the second half. In the Beverly game, Georgia scored all 3 of her first half goals in the span of 15 minutes, giving her the hat trick. Beverly marked her all over the field but that wasn't enough to stop Georgia's speed and desire to get to goal. I'm sure we'll be seeing many Falcon players in the scoring column this season, but for now we are thrilled that Georgia has found the back of the net for us. Georgia was named the other "Spotlight Player of the Game" on our bus ride Home. Keep it up Georgia!
