Danvers 1 - Bishop Feehan 6
The Danvers Girls Varsity Soccer team hosted Bishop Feehan for the first time in their history Saturday Afternoon.  Bishop Feehan came into the match, un beaten as the #1 team in the state, the #1 team in New England, and the #3 team in the country. The Falcons knew that they’d have their hands full. The visitors didn’t need long to shake off the rust from their 90 minute bus ride. The Shamrock scored twice in the first six minutes of the game.

“We had A defeated mentality before the game even started. Their first two goals were certainly ones we could’ve prevented. We weren’t marking inside the box and that’s gonna hurt you no matter who the opponent is.”

Bishop Feehan would add a third goal in the 18th minute. Danvers made some changes and started to pick up their play as the half wore on. Addi McCarty moved up into the midfield and made a big difference right away combining with Ashley Freitas and Kaia Glover. McCarty hit a 50 yard free kick off the crossbar and had two more long-distance serves that the home team wasn’t able to cash in on. Sabina Sturgeon brought energy into the game at right back and Lily Delefano stabilized the back line. Claudia Drakes and Maddie Hanas brought instant speed to the forward line. In the 30th minute Hanas was sent in behind the Bishop Feehan defense on a 40 yard breakaway, just as she entered the goalie box, she was taken down from behind. The Falcons were awarded a penalty kick and Lila Doucette made it count, hitting a low hard shot passed the diving keeper for the goal.

“Lila took that Penalty well she was very confident in that situation. Maddie’s run with the ball was amazing, she was playing with so much intensity and she really inspired the team. She never slowed down for a second, no matter what the score was. All heart from her today.

Danvers would give up two more goals before halftime, making the score of 5–1 at the half.

Danvers dodged a few early bullets in the second half goalkeeper Taylor Landry made seven of her 11 saves in the second stanza. Bishop Feehan scored a sixth in the 12th minute of play, but Danvers hung tough after that. Emma Sutherland, Maggie Lamar, Cassidy, Randall, and Lila Flynn all stepped up their games in the second half holding the shamrocks to just the one goal.

With the loss, Danvers record stands at 9 – 6–2 with just one game to play in the regular season, at home against Andover next Tuesday night.
