Danvers 5 - Peabody 1

The Danvers Varsity Girls Soccer Team traveled to Peabody Sunday afternoon for their second game of the young season.  With the sun in their eyes and a light breeze blowing at their goal, the visiting Falcons started a little sluggish.  It wasn't until the 16th minute that they got on the scoreboard.  Senior Captain, Reese Pszenny opened up the scoring for the second straight game, assisted by freshman Georgia Prouty.  After the first goal of the game, the Falcons started to put several good attacks together from there.  In the 20th minute, sophomore Reese Holland took a throw in from around midfield and found senior captain Arianna Bezanson.  Bezanson proceeded to dribble through and around several Peabody defenders and score the second goal of the game.  11 minutes later, Bezanson did it again, much like the first one only this one came off of a Peabody turnover in midfield.

"To be up 3-0 at Peabody in the first half was an amazing accomplishment.  I didn't feel we had the same intensity that we came out with in our first game against Masconomet.  Thankfully, Ari had those 2 beautiful attacking runs to produce the 2nd and 3rd goals.  Both were an amazing level of skill and effort."

Danvers played many players throughout the half and several of them got their first varsity action of the season.  With 6 minute remaining in the half, Peabody finally cashed in with a goal of their own off of a corner kick.  The goal made it 3-1 Falcons at halftime.

"Our passing still has a lot of room for improvement.  I'd like us to be a stronger team in possession, but we're still not there yet.  It will come through hard work in practice and working on it more in games.  But today, we relied more on counter attacks.  I felt defensively we held our own.  We've given up 2 goals this year and both have been on corners so we'll need to be stronger there as well."

Bezanson capped off her hat trick midway through the second half on an assist from classmate Pszenny.  3 minutes later sophomore Ellie Anderson scored the final goal of the game, assisted by Bezanson.  The game would end with Danvers taking the 5-1 victory to improve to 2-0.  Coach Hinchion mentioned the play of senior captain, center backs Emma Dunn and Gabby Chisholm as having solid games on defense and freshman Georgia Prouty who continuously hustled all over the field making players from her forward and midfield spots.

"Peabody is a solid team with outstanding coaching.  They were well prepared and the score doesn't indicate how even the game was.  They will be much tougher to beat the next time we play them.  I was a little nervous when I saw the schedule back in the spring and noticed our first 2 games would be against Masco and Peabody.  That's a tough 2 games to start any season.  So for us to have won them both and have 4 points in our league at this point is great.  We'll need to continue to improve and take our game to a higher level though if we want to keep this streak going.  Our schedule is loaded with strong teams this year."

Danvers next plays Tuesday night as home vs. Gloucester.  They'll then host Bishop Fenwick in a non league match next Thursday.
