DHS Soccer Girls Game Reports - Danvers vs. Beverly @ DHS
September 11, 2019
The Danvers Girls Varsity Soccer Team had their Home opener Wednesday night against rival Beverly. Beverly came into the game at 2-0 while the host Falcons were 1-0. Over the last 6 years this match up has become one of the best rivalries on the north shore with every game between the two sides being a nail biter. This game would be no different.
Danvers came out at a very high pace and passed the ball extremely well. They controlled possession quite well and had several early opportunities that they weren't able to capitalize on. However, in the 16th minute the Falcons got on the score board. Junior Riley DiGilio fed senior captain Abby Cash who then found sophomore Arianna Bezanson all alone inside the Beverly box. Bezanson calmly put her shot into the back of the net giving Danvers the early lead. It was very short lived however. 2 minutes later Beverly cashed in on a Danvers defensive mistake tying the game at 1. 4 minutes later, Beverly got what would be the eventual game winner on a scrum inside the Falcon box.
"We played well up through our first goal, but we weren't playing with any urgency. We had some easy opportunities that we either miss hit or that their goalie made the save on. I felt we were playing without any intensity in that first half."
Danvers basically spent the entire second half in the Beverly end of the field, but once again, couldn't find the back of the net.Despite out shooting the visiting Panthers 32-7, it just wasn't meant to be. Danvers dropped to 1-1 on the season with the loss.
"We played much better the second half, but for some reason, we just couldn't get that needed goal. I give Beverly credit. They played 80 minutes hard and their goalie made some big plays to keep us from tying. Still, I felt we had 5 or 6 easy opportunities to score that we just didn't take advantage of. It happens. Sometimes it just doesn't go your way. Hopefully we can get out of this 1 game slump and turn things around on Friday."
Coach Hinchion mentioned the outstanding effort of Abby Cash at forward along with Livvi Anderson and Gabby Chisholm on defense.
