Danvers 6 - Saugus 0

Danvers traveled to Melrose Wednesday night to take on host, Saugus for an NEC girls soccer clash.  It was back to back games for both teams and with Danvers haven beaten Beverly the day before, Coach Hinchion wasn't sure what to expect from his team a day later.

"We played a lot of girls heavy minutes against Beverly.  I was hoping that some of our younger players would step up against Saugus so we could gives some players a little rest."

The visitors wasted no time to show their Coach they still have plenty left in the tank.  Senior captain, Riley DiGilio scored her first on what would be a big night for her, assisted by classmate Julia Vaillancourt in the second minute of play.  3 minutes later, the lead was doubled as sophomore Arianna Bezanson scored on an assist from DiGilio.  Coach Hinchion has his bench warming up and about to come into the game when the starting group got their third goal at the 8 minute mark.  Once again it was DiGillio from Vaillancourt.  That would be Vaillancourt's 8th assist of the season so far.

The younger players came in and played great soccer for much of the remainder of the half.  Sophomore,Teagan Price played exceptionally well at center mid and Courtney Hinchion passed the ball quite well at forward and mid.  Freshman Kasey McDonough held her own at center back and sophomore Katie Walfield made several solid runs up the left side of the field.  With 4 minutes remaining in the half, the starters came back in and scored a quick goal to make it 4-0.  DiGilio got her third of the game, this time assisted by junior, Reese Pszenny.  Holly DeAngelis only had to make 1 save in net the first half.

"I played every field player in that first half and they all played at a high level.  Teagan Price has played really well the last several games and she has given us a boost when she comes into the game."

Danvers didn't register any goals in the third quarter but they got great effort from sophomore, Ryley Crosby from her right back position on the field.  She made some terrific runs up the field and made some key defensive tackles as well.  Sophomore, Emily Goddard took over in goal the second half and only needed to make one save to keep the shutout in tact.  Danvers scored 2 more goals in the final 20 minutes to make it 6-0.  Sophomore Ellie Anderson scored off an assist from DiGilio.  The last goal of the game came off the foot of Ari Bezanson, again with an assist to DiGilio.

"Riley was a part of all 6 goals tonight.  That's pretty impressive.  Arianna did the same thing last week against Peabody.  Both girls are really rolling offensively.  In 6 games, Riley has 10 goals and 8 assists and Ari has 15 goals and 3 assists.  They're both tough to stop."

Danvers will be back at it Friday night when they host Swampscott at 6:30.  Danvers improved to 6-0 on the season.
