Danvers 8 - Salem 0

On Tuesday night the Danvers Girls Soccer Team finally was able to take the pitch and play their first game of the season. They hosted a young Salem team coming into the match 0-2. Danvers was celebrating their senior night for their 8 seniors.
It didn't take the host Falcons long to get the game in hand. Junior, Arianna Bezanson scored the first goal of the year on an assist from classmate Haley Murphy less than a minute into the game. Only 6 minutes later, senior captain Riley DiGilio scored the first of her 3 goals on a feed from senior Julia Vaillancourt. The same two players combined again only 3 minutes later to give the Falcons a 3-0 cushion.
"Salem is super young this year and we came out pretty fast. Only 10 minutes had been played and it was 3-0. Scoring early was a major strength for us last season so hopefully this is something we can continue going forward."
Junior Reese Pszenny got into the scoring column late in the first quarter from senior Mia Jordan. The Falcons put 3 more on the scoreboard before halftime with senior captain Livvi Anderson, Murphy and DiGilio all tickling the twine. Assists went to DiGilio, junior Gabby Chisholm and Anderson. The Falcons rounded out the scoring with an 8th goal in the second half scored by senior Izzy Donahoe, assisted by Pszenny. The goal was Donahoe's first career varsity goal.
"Izzy was working really hard up top for us and it was nice to see her rewarded with that goal. She deserved it."
Senior Holly DeAngelis and sophomore Emily Goddard shared the goal tending duties and saw no shots in the game. Danvers had all 21 varsity players play significant time and everyone had a hand in the victory.
"It was so nice to see the girls back on the field again. They've been waiting a long time and have been really patient. I'm very happy for them, especially the seniors. We have 8 awesome seniors who have done a lot for the soccer program and I know they'll all be terrific leaders for us this season."
Seniors, Livvi Anderson, Riley DiGilio, Mia Jordan, Julia Vaillancourt, Holly DeAngelis, Avery Scharffenberg, Haley Murphy and Izzy Donahoe all were presented a bouquet of flowers before the game to present to their parents. The underclassmen on the team decorated the stadium with blue and white streamers, balloons and posters for each senior. Seniors also each received a canvas poster of themselves for the memorable occasion.
