The Danvers Girls Varsity Soccer Team traveled to Gloucester Tuesday afternoon for a league match up against the Fishermen.  Danvers came into the game looking for a needed 2 points in the league standings with a win.  The Lady Falcons wasted no time as senior captain, Abby Cash scored the eventual game winner in the third minute of the game.  The play was set up by sophomore Arianna Bezanson.  Only 6 minutes later, junior striker Riley DiGilio put her team up 2-0 on a nice assist from Bezanson that was also set up by Colby Thomson.  Danvers continued to dominate play as they passes the ball extremely well and attacked with numbers in the Gloucester end of the field.  The Falcons struck 3 more times in the first half to give them a 5-0 lead before intermission.  Cash scored her second goal of the game on a pass from junior Haley Murphy.  Bezanson tucked one away of her own off a feed from sophomore Reese Pszenny.  Finally, senior captain, Becca Rocker finished off a feed from Cash to round out the half.

"We knew coming in that Gloucester had been struggling a bit.  We wanted to try and get some goals on the board early and then work on a couple of different formations to get us prepared as we move on.  The girls responded so quickly and I was please with how we moved the ball.  Our back line was solid and kept Gloucester out of our end for the most part. Junior, Livvi Anderson and sophomore Gabby Chisholm played very well in the back."

The second half was more of the same as Danvers came out looking to keep the Fishermen on their heels.  Juniors Mia Jordan and Julia Vaillancourt provided an excellent midfield duo, feeding teammates and creating chances from the center of the pitch.  Senior Colby Thomson started things off with a beautiful, unassisted goal to the top corner of the Gloucester net.  It was her first ever, Varsity goal.  Not long after, Pszenny took a long distance shot that rose over the keeper and found netting giving the Falcons a 7-0 lead.  Chisholm assisted on the play.  Danvers got their final goal from freshman Mikayla Shaffaval who deposited a nice pass from Rocker.  It was Shaffaval's first Varsity goal as well.  Emma Maynard, Kylie MacCormack and Holly DeAngelis split the goaltending duties making 5 saves on the day for another shutout for the Falcons.

"This was a solid win for us and I'm happy with how the girls played today.  I was excited to see Shaffaval have such a solid game for us on defense.  She really attacked well from her defensive spot and it was nice to see her rewarded with her first Varsity goal.  Julia Vaillancourt was fantastic in the middle for us.  Her touch was on today and her field vision was terrific.  She 1 and 2 touch passes all over the field and really helped control the flow of the game."

Danvers improved to 3-1 with win and next host Swampscott on Thursday at 6:30.  It is sure to be a great game.
